David Dwyer - Candidate for FL House District 42

David Dwyer is a far right extremist who frequently poses with his guns, harasses the parents of LGBTQI+ children, and has called for the arrest of teachers for providing reading materials to children in schools. He frequently shares homophobic and transphobic content. He calls himself a proponent of “America First” - a phrase with a long history of white identity extremism in the United States. Dwyer has spoken in opposition of Gay Pride month, has called Black Lives Matter ‘corrupt,’ and a ‘criminal organization.’

He’s a strong supporter of book bans, opposed to mask mandates, and has referred to George Soros’ “puppet money” - a well known antisemitic trope. He has promoted the groomer panic. He has stated that he wants to return religious teachings to public schools. He has equated abortion rights with chattel slavery. In regards to teachers speaking about gender identity or LGBTQI+ issues in school, he’s said “I feel like we should have one teacher arrested to prove a point.”

Dwyer has been endorsed by the Christian Patriots of Central Florida, an organization that urges engagement in local politics for the express purpose of ‘advocat[ing] for Biblically aligned legislation.’ The group is also anti-science, advocating for ‘medical freedom’ and ‘unconstitutional mandates.’ Dwyer has also been endorsed by the Orange County Chapter of the Florida Republican Assembly, a fundamentalist organization that defines marriage as between ‘a man and a women,’ - and believes this conception should be enshrined into law. The FRA is also opposed to income tax of any kind, and also states that public life and government should be guided by Judeo-Christian values.
